In 21st century, it is so easy to forget about the affluence surrounding us. However in South Korea, there was a time for excruciating famine and poverty. Right after Korean War, not a single person on the planet expected the perished soil to rise from the ashes of Korean War and become one of the greatest leading economic powers. There is one historic figure in the center of this astounding growth and that is Park Jung-Hee.

Right after Korean War, everyone had a same hope. A wish. They did not long for democracy. In fact, none of them knew what democracy even was. However, there was only one thing they wished for. And that wish was to have three meals just for one day. At then, there was nothing to eat besides wild grain and arrowroot. In this situation, president Park carried out a military coup and became a dictator to end the hunger of its people. He began to produce light industry goods such as wig, shoes, and etc with cheap labor of South Korea and exported them throughout the world, resulting in overall improvement in overall standard of life. He gave jobs to those in poverty, creating a belief that everyone can live a great life if they work hard. Not only president park salvaged his nation from destitution, he gave his people a notion that anyone can escape from poverty and lead a successful life.

Can you imagine an egg without a Chicken? In South Korea, this was real. When there was not a car in the streets, president Park decided to construct a highway that leads Seoul to Busan. At then, the leader of opposition party Kim Dae-Joong, who later became 15th president of South Korea insisted that president Park's plan was an anachronism, and they should rather harvest rice and flower. However, in all turned out that president Park's somewhat reckless plan was one of the main factors that contributed to the economic development of South Korea. President Park believed that a efficient means of transport was needed to boost economy. For him, highways was like an artery of economy. His foresight which was blamed and faced endless confrontations is now evaluated as one of the most important decisions that boosted Korean economy.

Iron is the symbol of industrialization. For president Park, harvesting only rice and flower was deemed as a poor way of boosting economy. Agriculture industry would not benefit the economy. Therefore, president Park decided to manufacture ships, cars and machines. In order to do that, he decided to erect an iron milt in Pohang. Experts world wide told president Park to reconsider his plans. For those negative about his idea thought how could iron milt benefit a country that is concentrating on agriculture. However, president Park proved them wrong. Because he kept his will strongly, companies such as Hundai and Kia is leading the Korean economy

As a result, president Park brought a huge difference to South Korea. First, his dictatorship paradoxically guided his people to the end of poverty. Second, his decision to build a highway made the transport easier, becoming an artery of the economy. Thirdly, he built an iron milt into realization, which became the foundation of South Korea's heavy industries. Many criticize president Park for his dictatorship, but when they are asked wether a single Korean suffered during his regime, not a single one could dare to raise his voice.
